KEEPER OF THE FARMHOUSE

I've been snowed in too long!

I have been cleaning my craft room, studio, work space, whatever you want to call it and quite frankly, it will probably not look this good again for a while, so I thought I would share a few pictures with you. Still probably not to the level of organized, or cleanliness for that matter as some of you, but for me......well, we will not go there!  The only bad thing about organizing and cleaning in there is that it makes me not want to work on anything becaue I don't want to mess it back up! Any suggestions that you have, would be greatly appreciated! The only thing that I am planning on changing soon, is moving my books to our family room and a new bookshelf soon, so I will have a whole new cabinet to put more stuff in!!!!!!  I can't wait!  Hoping to organize and have some of my fabric in there so that it is easier to get to instead of under my table and in the closet!

The view from my dest.

Recently bought these in the tool section to hold my DMC floss and they work really well!

My design wall for quilting. It's pretty small and probably needs to be bigger but so far it's working ok for me.

An aquaintance whoes mother passed away, gave me this basket of thead! It's in an old Petersborough basket company basket and i love it! She used to work at a coat factory where they used this thread. That was several years go but thread is still in great shape and I have been using it!

showing off!

I just posted a couple of days ago but I was going through some pics today and found a couple of pics of past quilts that I have made and I wanted to share them before they disapear again! lol  I am looking forward to a few days of stitching.  I think we are in for some snow. The weather man says little bursts for the next few days then possibly a big storm early next week.  We will see. I am not totally sick of it yet, so all is good.
Still fighting this respiratory thing that I have but atleast I can breath through my nose for a few hours each day without using nasal spray and I am not currently on antibiotics so maybe it's getting better!
This quilt is called "Castle in the Mountains". I think I got the patterm from a Thimbleberries book but I did not use Thimblerries fabric. I made it about 6 years ago.  It is machine pieced but and hand quilted and it took me about a year to quilt it. I have never machine quilted but I'd really like to try.  It is currently hanging on my living room wall over the couch.
This is the first quilt I ever made.   I have always cross stitched since I was a teenager but had never quilted before.  My mother was an avid quilter and I had always watched her and wanted to try it.  In the mid 90's, I went through a difficult time in my life and after some rocky years, my husband and I divorced. Quilting seemed to help me relax and I made this sampler quilt before I even knew what was happening. I guess I can thank my ex-husband for starting my quilting obsession! lol  I do not have this quilt displyed at my house right now.  Actually it is hanging over the end my iron bed at the old farmhouse.....where I'd like to be now, but that's totally another story!
This is a wallhanging memories quilt that I made for my mom Christmas before last. It had all sorts of pictures of our family and her life on it and it made her cry! Not that her crying was my intention, but it let me know how much she loved it and that she wasn't expecting it.
This is my new son-in-law holding the sign that I made for him and my daughter for Christmas this year.  They knew I had made it but I wouldn't give it to them until Christmas and they were excited waiting for it for about a month before they got it.

Well, I hope everyones new year is starting off healthy and happy. I have enjoyed reading all of my blog friends posts! Love looking at all the pictures! Unitl next time.....happy stitching!

Starting the NEW YEAR!!!

Had a great day today! My daughter came over and I got to see my Cheyenne!  She is so funny and I laughed the entire time she was here unitl she poured my scrapbook brads all over the floor and said they were "sprinkles"!  It took forever to dig them all out of the carpet! Wc colored and snacked and played while mommy did some scrapbooking!   My daughter Erica is an awesome scrapbooker!  She makes amazing pages effortlessly and I am bugging her to start a blog to show off some of her work. Me....well, for some reason, I have been on a cross stitching kick lately.  I have not even quilted the first stitch yet  this winter  and I usually reserve the winter for quilting all of my quilt tops that I pieced over the last spring and summer. I just have too many hobbies, but it is what keeps me sane! I wanted to do the challenge with all the new cross stitch starts in January but I didn't want to start a bunch of new things when I already have so many UFO's that I need to get done!  I did start one new project in the last few days after I finished my Prairie Schooler design and here are pics of both of them.  I also entered a swap that I am so excited about becuase it is my first one! Can't wait to show you what I send and what I receive!
I can't post on my  blog tonight without showing off my little woman!  I love her soooo much! I have a little pillow that says " I never knew how much love my heart could hold,  til someone called me grandma".  No truer statement has ever been made!

And if you have seen enough of the cold weather recently, I will leave you with a couple more icy shots from around my house! Til next time, stay warm and be crafty!
